I booked a full day 6+ hours photography tour and it was fabulous and worth every penny spent. We traveled over 100 miles on this trip and saw orcas, sea lions and humpback whales being very active. … Full review by 142shirley

We couldn’t have asked for a better tour. The orcas and humpbacks we saw were very active. The boat was comfortable and there was plenty of room for photographers with lots of big, heavy equipment. T… Full review by Kahsia H
Hey I fully appreciate the reasons behind the 200m rule for the orcas. However, I cannot quite work out whether or not this distance will actually allow me to be able to see a killer whale without the use of an insanely good camera lense... Can you advise on what the experience is now like with these new laws?

Having never seen a whale I must say we were overwhelmed by the experience. I’m not sure the crew can predict where these creatures will surface so at times I’m sure we were a lot closer and had a marvellous view before repositioning and backing off again. I was very keen to not waste any time with them by watching them through a viewfinder or screen so my photos are limited. Mine were taken with my phone but I was quite envious of those with a decent camera. We were very lucky and I’m sure every encounter is different. Sea and weather conditions were with us too.

This can be the "luck of the drawer". However, if you don't see whales in may don't despair. The last time that we went on the Prince of Whales tour there was an opportunity to have repeat passage more or less on a complimentary basis. An environmental fee would be required. For the most accurate information please contact their office. There are many wonderful sites on or around Victoria as the website at the Trident Foundation net suggests.
When I looked online it's average for a whale watching trip and the cost for peak season compared to off season is around 20-30 dollars. Check out their website. Princeofwhales
