Saludos! I've recently received notice of a rafting trip down the Usumacinta River that begins in Villahermosa, then shuttles to Palenque, visit to Bonampak, and next night in cabins in or near Frontera Corizal. There are several nights of camping along the river then shuttle back to Palenque/Villahermosa. My questions are mostly about safety: First, is this area safe for tourists? Wikipedia reports lots of problems with thieves but info is not up to date. Second, reviews that include basking crocs are a little intimidating. Anyone know what type of campsites exist along the river? Thanks!
