The Honda Civic Type R Racing Black package lives up to the name and swaps out the red interior accents in the Type R for a monochromatic black design. This new package features black Ultrasuede on the dash and door panels, black seats and what Honda Japan calls special color stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and shifter boot.

Japanese classics experienced a particularly large spike, and while prices have mostly cooled over the past couple of years, a 1998 Honda Civic Type R on Bring a Trailer has triggered a bidding war that’s seen its price reach modern hot hatch territory.

Wireless smartphone charging has been added along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror. You can have the car in your choice of Championship White, Crystal Black Pearl, Frame Red, Racing Blue Pearl, or Sonic Gray Pearl, but the latter costs an additional ¥38,500, which translates to $244 in American money.

A searing red interior is no longer mandatory for the Type R thanks to the Racing Black Package introduced at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

Honda has revealed the Civic Type R Racing Black Package at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, where the red suede has been switched out for black suede upholstery. The color substitution applies to the seats, the interior carpet, and even the floor mats.

In most of the world, Honda will sell you a Civic Type R with any color seats you want, as long as it’s bright red. And ya know what? Good. We need more fun in the world and red seats are fun, especially in a car as thrilling as the Civic Type R.
