Minnesota Senate Republicans tried to expel Sen. Nicole Mitchell, DFL-Woodbury, from the chamber Monday, arguing that her felony burglary charge restricts her from adequately representing her constituents and that the nature of the allegations are unbecoming of a Minnesota senator.

The Senate vote was 33-33 on whether to consider on the motion to expel Mitchell. Motions die in the event of a tie so it was blocked.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Senate Republicans failed Monday in a bid to expel DFL State Sen. Nicole Mitchell as she faces criminal burglary charges.

Republican Senator Steve Drazkowski issued a statement on Monday following a blocked motion to expel Senator Nicole Mitchell for felony burglary charges.

It was chaos times two on Monday at the Minnesota Capitol as Senate Republicans tried again to expel DFL Sen. Nicole Mitchell of Woodbury, who has been charged with felony burglary. The House also remains at a stalemate with Democrats continuing their boycott.
