Sal Licata can’t believe the Mets and Pete Alonso still haven’t agreed on a deal, and wonders if the team even wants its homegrown slugger back.

"It has been a staredown...with the Mets and Pete," Duquette said, as shared by Grant Young of Sports Illustrated. "Because there's some uncertainty that there are a lot of suitors for him right now. A lot of the first base options are closed."

At some point the Mets either have to hear that Alonso is willing to accept their financial view of him or will get more aggressive elsewhere, probably pretty soon.
