The University of Pennsylvania and the federal government have reached an agreement that the Ivy League school will adhere to the Trump administration's ban on transgender athletes competing in women's sports.

The U.S. Education Department announced Tuesday that the University of Pennsylvania has agreed to ban transgender athletes from its women's sports teams in order to resolve a federal civil rights case that found the university violated female athletes' rights, the Associated Press reported.

Penn has agreed to ban transgender athletes, resolving the civil rights case sparked by swimmer Lia Thomas, the Department of Education said Tuesday.
