The Air Force Academy’s Cadet Chapel will stay open through Sept. 1 as the school seeks $68 million to renovate the classic example of modernist architecture.

"We know that several cadet classes haven't, and won't get to, enjoy the chapel," said Col Julian Gaither, the Academy's senior chaplain. "But in times of tragedy, it also becomes a beacon of hope.

The United States Air Force Academy’s Cadet Chapel will remain open through the summer as the school seeks $68 million to renovate the architectural marvel just north of Colorado Springs.

The U.S. Air Force Academy said May 2 it is investigating the on-campus death of Cadet 2nd Class Jesse Fimian, a political science major who hoped to join the Space Force.
