Cuba has arrested a suspected Chinese fentanyl kingpin who escaped from custody in Mexico and is also wanted by the United States, the Mexican government said Wednesday.
An alleged fentanyl kingpin wanted in both the United States and Mexico has been arrested in Cuba, the Mexican government confirmed.
He was indicted in federal court in Atlanta in 2022 on drug trafficking and money laundering charges. Mexican authorities captured him in Mexico City in October 2024 at the request of the US government. But a judge granted him house arrest, and last July, he escaped the home he was being held in under military guard.
Zhi Dong Zhang, known as “Brother Wang” and “El Chino,” will reportedly be transferred to Mexico from Cuba, after which it appears likely he will be sent to the United States to face drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
