An MIT startup has made a new kind of 3D hologram. Using scanned images and an inkjet printer, Lumii's approach prints images in layers onto clear paper that, when put together, form holograms.

A simple hack converts your smartphone into a hologram projector using an old CD case and some sticky tape. The device allows you to view objects on your display apparently floating in mid-air.

First, select a hologram video on Youtube of your choice – there are specific videos that are created for this purpose. Then, place your hologram projector in the center of your smartphone screen.

As a volumetric display, it can show more or less whatever you like within the swept area of that projector sheet. In the case of the VX1 table, the screen is around 18x18x8 cm (~7x7x3 inches).
