Former Carolina star quarterback Cam Newton doubled down on recent comments that the Panthers had “a locker room of losers” before drafting him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2011, saying his remarks were “aggressive” but “true.

Former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton recently said that he arrived in 2011 to a "locker room of losers." Former teammate Steve Smith Sr. and other Panthers from the 2010 team took exception. Newton addressed the situation on the latest episode of his Fourth and 1 podcast.

“For him to say that we was losers was a slap in the face,” Munnerlyn told The Athletic's Joseph Person. “This was a team who was two years removed from playing in the NFC divisional round against the Arizona Cardinals. We lost a couple pieces. We had Checkdown Jimmy Clausen at quarterback and we had a bad year. … For him to say losers was crazy."

Cam Newton may have upset his ex-Carolina Panthers teammates after his comments about joining losers when he was drafted to the team, and he isn't backing down. Days after making the statement, Newton doubled down and spoke about his remarks on his 4th and 1 podcast.

Cam Newton won a national championship and Heisman Trophy with the Auburn Tigers before the Carolina Panthers made him the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Newton is a growing media presence who said in November he was hurt when he wasn’t invited to join Smith, Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis and other former players in Germany when the Panthers played the New York Giants. Newton caused a stir in January by saying he would not give back his MVP award for a Super Bowl championship.
