An unusual planetary system with three known ultra-low density "super-puff" planets has at least one more planet, according ...
The new planet's discovery is detailed in a paper appearing Dec. 3 in the Astronomical Journal. "Super puff planets are very unusual in that they have very low mass and low density," said Jessica ...
Using the James Webb Space Telescope, astronomers have discovered a fourth planet in Kepler-51, a sweet system of cotton candy "super puff" planets.
However, it is unclear if Kepler-51e is also a super puff planet, because the researchers have not observed a transit of Kepler-51e and therefore cannot calculate its radius or density.
A planet way bigger than Jupiter has just ... located about 1,200 light years away and dubbed "WASP-193b" after the star it orbits — as an "extremely low-density super ... The Right Puff.
But just existing in a system with three super-puff exoplanets is an oddity. More work will need to be done to figure out just what the heck is going on with the Kepler-51 system.
‘Super-puff’ planet is one of the fluffiest worlds ever found. An exoplanet named TOI-1420b has a volume more than 1,700 times that of Earth but a mass 25 times Earth’s.
Even though the planet is about the size of Jupiter, it is much lighter, with about the same mass as Neptune. Its low density led some scientists to call it a "cotton candy" or "super puff" planet.
