Several members' of the U.S. Figure Skating community were onboard the American Airlines plane that collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk Helicopter over Washington, D.C., the governing body said in a statement.

Just 64 years after losing members in a plane crash, The Skating Club of Boston has suffered another air tragedy.

The skaters who were aboard American Airlines Flight 5342 when it collided with an Army helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River were traveling back from Wichita, Kan., where they attended a national development camp held after the U.

Jinna Han and Spencer Lane, two skaters training at the Norwood club, and their mothers were killed. Two coaches at the facility were also among the victims.

A pair of 16-year-old skaters, their mothers, and two Russian coaches were among the passengers on board an aeroplane that hit a helicopter above Washington DC on Wednesday evening, the group's skating club in Boston says.

The Skating Club of Boston, which lost six community members in the D.C. plane crash, suffered a similar tragedy in 1961.
