Drake’s lawyers cited Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show in his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group over "Not Like Us."

It seems that more drama has unfolded when it came to the defamation lawsuit that Drake's lawyers filed against Universal Music Group– in January 2025 amid his and Kendrick Lamar's very public feud against one another.

The Kendrick Lamar - Drake beef has hit the Super Bowl. Lamar performed a segment of his diss track "Not Like Us" during his halftime show performance at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. After several intentional false starts teasing that the song was about to begin, Lamar finally launched into the track, which has become his biggest hit to date.

Part of the excitement of a live show like the NFL Halftime Show is that we don't know what will happen until it does, like Usher's 2024 surprise guests or Rihanna's pregnancy announcement. But Kendrick's fight comes in the middle of an ongoing rap beef between him and rival Drake.

The rapper, who settled with iHeartMedia, suspects that the major label made secret payments and offered reduced licensing rates to third parties to promote the song.

Despite Drake’s settlement with iHeartMedia, discovery is moving forward in his high-stakes lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG). The presiding judge made as much clear in a recent order, after the major-label defendant last month asked to adjourn an initial pretrial conference set for April 2nd.
