Anthony Sanchez, a Lake Nona High School student, has died after he and two other students were hurt in a fiery car crash on Wednesday, allegedly the result of street racing, school officials and police confirmed.

It was so quiet in what would’ve been Anthony Sanchez’s class Thursday morning, students said they could hear the ticking of the neighboring classroom’s wall clock.

Police said speed is a factor, and street racing may have been involved in the crash that happened around 11 p.m. on Ford Road just east of Telegraph. The 16-year-old driver was headed west on Ford when he lost control and hit a building.

OPD reports that according to a preliminary investigation it’s believed the vehicles were exceeding the speed limit and not operating in a safe manner
