The 1,800-plus-foot mountain that juts into Chattanooga has long been one of the region's biggest attractions. It famously overlooks seven states, and is home to two iconic tourist destinations.

Chattanooga is shadowed by massive Lookout Mountain and sliced in two by the majestic Tennessee River. Surrounding the city are ample ways to enjoy nature, among so much more.

Note: On December 7, 2024, a significant wildfire damaged the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. The attraction is currently closed for restoration. It's expected to reopen sometime in June 2025 ...

Next, take a drive up to Lookout Mountain, which has attractions, such as Rock City (where you can see seven states on a clear day) and Ruby Falls (underground waterfall), that are worth a stop.

Many of the fields in the Lookout Mountain area are privately owned and require permission before landing. Some are as long as 2,000 feet, which could open the door to more than just hardcore STOL ...
