The UK has seen the warmest start to May on record as temperatures continue to soar, with firefighters battling wildfires and warnings over the “hidden dangers” of open water swimming.

Daniel Tatters, 26, and Dale Francis, 37, travelled from Stoke-on-Trent to Wolverhampton to set fire to a family home, jurors have been told.
