ORLANDO, Fla. -- Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse said Sunday that Jared McCain is in OK spirits after the team ruled him out for the rest of the season following knee surgery on Dec. 17.

Nick Nurse had a feeling Jared McCain’s left knee surgery would sideline the 76ers guard for the remainder of the season. So the coach would check in with the rookie more often and ask how he was doing when they crossed paths around the practice facility.

Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain will miss the rest of his rookie season to recover from knee surgery, the team announced Thursday. McCain underwent surgery on Dec. 17 to repair a torn left meniscus he sustained during Philadelphia's 121-107 home loss to Indiana four days earlier.

The Sixers say McCain is "progressing well," but after meeting with his surgeon on Thursday, it was decided to sit the rookie out indefinitely.

McCain suffered the torn meniscus in his left knee on Dec. 13 during a 121-107 loss to the Indiana Pacers. He underwent surgery to repair the tear and his return was indefinite. Repairing the meniscus was better for McCain's long-term prognosis with the injury. However, it also meant there would be a longer recovery.
