After years of third-party development, it’s looking to take over the reins with a more hands-on approach. LEGO is creating an in-house game development studio to work on future projects, as well as to build new ties to outside brands for potential tie-ins.

According to the CEO of The Lego Group, the company may begin developing some video games internally. Niels Christiansen, who has been Lego's CEO since 2017, said in an interview that the company is ramping up to make some games in-house.

Lego is working to build up its in-house game development, the company's boss has revealed. Speaking to The Financial Times, Lego boss Niels Christiansen said the company was increasing its focus on video game experiences created by its own teams, following years of partnerships with outside companies.

“We can say, as long as we’re under the Lego brand, we can cover experiences for kids of all ages, digital or physical. [Games development in-house] is something we’re building up,” Niels Christiansen, Lego’s chief executive, told the Financial Times.

LEGO has announced it's setting up its own video game development studio and will be bringing the production of LEGO titles in-house. Previously, the company has employed external teams like TT Games and Studio Gobo to make its brick-based games, but now the process will be handled internally.

LEGO has posted record profits in 2024, as the company seeks more LEGO video games for all ages to be released.
