The historic event was a recreation of the original Chisholm Trail Cattle Drive which started in the 1860’s. The cattle drive began in Pond Creek, Okla. and pays homage to the trail.

The month of July, 2017 marks the 150th anniversary of the first cattle drive up the Chisholm Trail from the Lone Star State to the Union Pacific Railroad shipping center at Abilene, Kansas.

The premise is to drive 400 wily and likely cantankerous Texas longhorns 800 miles – from San Antonio to Abilene, Kan. – in celebration of the 150th anniversary next year of the Chisholm Trail.
