A LinkedIn post has gone viral after claiming that Sesame Street’s Elmo was recently laid off after 45 years on the beloved children’s show, reportedly due to federal budget cuts in US.

Elmo has been a beloved fixture on "Sesame Street" dating back to my childhood in the 80s, teaching children to count, share, and most importantly, feel.

Apparently, times are tough even on Sesame Street. A post that was seemingly from Elmo went viral when the Muppet let people know he was “open to work” on LinkedIn.

"Unfortunately, Elmo was recently laid off because of the federal budget cuts," the now-deleted post circulating on social media began. "Elmo worked at Sesame Street for 45 years. Elmo is sad.
