The basic plot of the play follows the adventures of three Victorian women explorers into what they believe to be Terra Incognita, a new, unexplored land. The three are from very different exploration backgrounds but all exhibit their own form of independence.

Notre Dame first produced On the Verge in April 1996 as an advanced directing project of student Ruth Diemer under the supervision of Professor Reg Bain. This is the first production of Overmyer’s play as part of the regular season. There will be one 15-minute intermission.
